Get Your Name Out When You Apply For A Job | Business Blog

The best thing you can do to speed up your chance of finding the right job is to get your name out and do all you can to network.

It doesn?t hurt to get the word out that you are looking for employment even before you start sending out resumes and filling out applications. Networking for a new job is very effective and anyone who is looking for a new place to work or a career change should do it.

How do you put out feelers? Since there are several ways to do this, no one ever said that you can?t try them all. One way to get the word out is to start making phone calls and sending out emails to everyone you know.

This includes friends, family, former co-workers and employers, and people you know through organizations you belong to. Let everyone know you are looking for a job and ask them for support.

Ask if they would be willing to keep you informed if they hear of any opportunities. Ask them to let others know that you?re looking for a job. They might even be willing to give you a good reference; it doesn?t hurt to ask.

Expand your networking efforts to the rest of the community to include people you might know in stores, your hairstylist, your pharmacist and even your child?s teacher. You?d be amazed at how many jobs people hear about.

Even if they can?t provide a reference, they might know someone looking to hire somebody like you.

The internet is also great to get the word out. Many social and professional sites are created just to help people showcase themselves and their skills. Word of mouth spreads fast this way, and many people have found jobs just by letting people know they are looking.

Local job fairs are a great place to showcase your skills and see who?s offering jobs. It?s also a good idea to connect with professional associations in your field of expertise. Try to connect with other people in the field you are interested in.

No reason why you shouldn?t use all these tools at the same time. Don?t drag thing along by only trying one avenue at a time. There is little time to waste if you are looking for employment. Take advantage of all of these suggestions immediately so that results come in more quickly.

After you have made the first contacts, follow up with the people you?ve connected with. Be grateful for their help, and remind them you are still looking and available.

You might find that having to network while you are looking for a job is an extra stress added to an already existing one. After all, we don?t like to just ask someone to do us a favor like, ?Could you help me get a job?? Just ask for people?s help in spreading your network. Then, be sure to express your sincere thanks for each person?s help. You never know which feeler is going to produce your next great career!
