Applications are now being accepted for the position of Visiting Media/Communications Specialist for the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Part of the Department of Special Education, the Clearinghouse is home to several projects related to early childhood education and early childhood special education, including the Illinois Early Learning (IEL) project, the Illinois Early Childhood Asset Map (IECAM) project, the Illinois Early Intervention Clearinghouse, and the online journal Early Childhood Research & Practice. The Media/Communications Specialist is responsible for editing, fact/reference checking, typesetting, and proofreading a variety of print and electronic materials related to these projects. Day-to-day work requires prioritizing multiple tasks in a team environment.
Required Education and Work Experience: Master's degree by May 2012, in English, Rhetoric, Library and Information Science, or a related field. Two years' editing experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Word. Strong writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Education and Work Experience: Familiarity with InDesign and Dreamweaver. Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Interest in or knowledge of early childhood education or early childhood special education. Experience editing academic publications such as journals.
This is a half-time 12-month non-tenured academic professional position, with the possibility of expanding to three-quarters or full time. Starting date will be as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
